Robert W. Maize, 84, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away November 8, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa. He was born March 21, 1932 to Earl H. and Bertha B. Horn Maize on what is now Route C northeast of Lancaster, Missouri. He attended rural schools in Schuyler County, Missouri and finished his elementary and high school education at Lancaster High School. He later attended Parsons College and Indian Hills Community College. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and for 12 years in the Army Reserves.

Robert married Lois Henry on February 17, 1952 in Bloomfield. To that union, three children were born; Michael Dennis, Douglas Stephen, and Christina Renee. The couple later divorced. On December 23, 1977, he married Marilyn Kunzman in Ottumwa, Iowa. They were later divorced.

Robert worked for John Morell and Company, Prudential Insurance Company, Maize Precision Building and Remodeling, and Diamond Cabinets. Over the last eight years he worked at Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and served in the positions of House Committee Member, Bingo Chairman, Honor Guard Commander, Finance Officer, and Commander.

He is survived by his son, Douglas (Lisa) Maize of Ottumwa; daughter, Christina (Rusty) Silone of Ottumwa; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Eugene (Dorothy) Maize of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister, Doris Kinion of Ankeny, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Dennis Maize; granddaughter, Jancine Maize; sister Lona Tripp; and a nephew, Rodney Kinion.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor R.J. Montis officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the IOOF Cemetery Avenue of Flags.

JoAnn Gilfillan “Joy” Miller, 75, of Fremont, Iowa and former resident of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away peacefully with the sun shining on her face and her children by her side on October 30, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. She was born February 27, 1941 in Davis County, Iowa to Bill George and Mabel Francis Dills Laughridge Gilfillan. She married Gerald Lee Miller on September 7, 1963 in Lancaster, Missouri. He passed away on July 9, 2007.

JoAnn led a wonderful and active life. She was a Rainbow Girl in her youth and stayed active in organizations in adulthood serving in T.T.T., P.E.O., and Order of the Eastern Star. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, William (Becky) Miller of Fremont, Iowa; daughter, Cynthia Miller of Lawrence, Kansas; four grandchildren, Christian Gipple, Matthew Miller, Jillian LeAnn Miller, Dakota Cairns; and a great-granddaughter, Malia Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Her wish was to be cremated and services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established to her family.

Beverly Ann Scott, 78, of Unionville, Iowa passed away October 29, 2016 at the Monroe County Hospital and Clinics in Albia, Iowa. She was born December 31, 1937 in Blakesburg, Iowa to Charles Ivan and Edith Laura Williams Woods. She married Gerald Devere Scott May 28, 1955 in Davis County, Iowa. He preceded her in death July 26, 1988. She later married Charlie Johnson.

Beverly worked in Home Health Care in Davis, Appanoose, Wapello, and Monroe Counties. She loved her job and worked until she was 73 years old. While not working, she enjoyed sewing and quilting, watching Wheel of Fortune, and drinking Pepsi. She will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Rodney (Teresa) Scott of Unionville, Iowa; two daughters, Becky Knott of Ottumwa, Iowa, Laura (Jim) Molle of Unionville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (George) Shiltz of Centerville, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Devere Scott; daughter, Sharon Kay Scott; great-grandson, Joseph McVeigh; four brothers, Jerry, Rollie, Don, and Raymond Woods; and three sisters, Marge Schwartz, Betty Smith, Darlene Wollums.

Beverly’s wish was to be cremated. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. No service is planned. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date at the Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa. A memorial has been established to the Taylor Cemetery.

Cindy Lou Strawhacker, 63, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away October 26, 2016 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was born April 21, 1953 in Muscatine, Iowa to Roy Elburn and Emma “Daisy” May Bailey Stawhacker. She graduated from Davis County High School in 1971. Cindy was a dietician at the Bloomfield Care Center for 27 years. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, and going way overboard at Christmas time. She also collected teddy bears and liked to watch the Food Network, old fashioned scary movies, and Christmas movies. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Strawhacker of Fairfield, Iowa; two grandchildren, Michael Strawhacker, Madison Strawhacker; five sisters, Dixie (Mike) Garmon, Terry Appenzeller, Candy Thaxton all of Bloomfield, Iowa, Carla Strawhacker of Burlington, Iowa, Debra (Carlan) Frymoyer of Pulaski, Iowa; brother, Douglas Strawhacker of Vienna, Illinois; four step-brothers, Frank “Sonny” Rupe, Dean Rupe, Danny (Patty) Rupe, Dave (Shari) Rupe all of Ottumwa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-fathers, Tom Prevo Jr., Frank Rupe; brother, Steven Strawhacker; daughter-in-law, Beth Strawhacker; two sisters-in-law, Juansetta Rupe, Brenda Rupe; and a brother-in-law, David Thaxton.

Margery Bridgman, 91, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away October 21, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born October 23, 1924 in Hollybush, Wales to John and Marjory Llewellyn Thomas. She was a WWII bride, marrying Oris Wayne Bridgman on June 4, 1945 in Malvern, England. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1996. Margery worked as a cook at the Davis County Hospital for 32 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and Rebekah Lodge #1 of Bloomfield. In her free time, Margery enjoyed knitting and watching the Chicago Cubs. She also loved all animals, especially cats, dogs, and cardinal birds.

She is survived by two brothers, Lyn Thomas of Cardiff, Wales, Ivor Thomas of Liverpool, England; a sister, Rachel Burns of Cardiff, Wales; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Shirley Tucker of Bloomfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Rebecca Poulton, Margaret Millard, an infant sister; and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Jim Wakelin officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday with friends gathering from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Care Center Activity Fund and the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.

Betty Jean Murray Hilbert, 91, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away peacefully on October 5, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center with family by her side. She was born May 18, 1925 in Maitland, Missouri to Guy Raymond and Gladys Marie Murray. Betty most enjoyed serving others, which she proved from childhood well into her later years of life. She was married in St. Joseph, Missouri to Lawrence Hilbert of Skidmore, Missouri on August 25, 1945. Together they raised four sons. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed entertaining in her home and making lifelong connections including the connection she had made with her best friend Eula Dean. Betty was a particular woman, her house was always spotless and her hair and makeup always perfect. Especially that signature pink lipstick. Betty was an amazing cook that loved to serve anyone every chance she got. What She loved the most was spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She also loved spending the weekends at garage and estate sales with Lawrence trying to find the best deals. Betty will be remembered most by her infectious laugh and sweet spirit.

Betty is survived by four sons, Larry (Betty) Hilbert of Salina, Kansas, Ricky (Carrie) Hilbert of Mound City, Missouri, Roger Hilbert of Bennett, Colorado, John (Becky) Hilbert of Bloomfield; twelve grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Lawrence; three sisters, Mary, Hope, and Maxine; and two brothers, Jack and Bill.

Graveside services with burial of the cremated remains will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Maitland Cemetery in Maitland, Missouri. Pastor Gary Axtell will officiate. A luncheon will be served after the service at the American Legion Hall in Maitland. A memorial has been established to the Maitland Cemetery.

Judith Ann “Judy” Hawkins, 74, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away October 5, 2016 at her home. She was born September 21, 1942 in Davis County, Iowa to Larval F. and Cora Elizabeth Ritz Hawkins. She married John Latimer on November 26, 1961, and they were later divorced. She married Jerry Hawkins on December 30, 1978 in West Grove, Iowa. She loved her Lord and was an active member of the West Grove Methodist Church for over 35 years. Judy and Jerry went on over 20 lay missions to churches throughout the Midwest and really enjoyed worshipping with people. She was a giving person with a kind smile and was always willing to help other people. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and playing bridge.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Hawkins; daughter, Justine (Scott) Black of Oskaloosa, Iowa; two sons, Joel Latimer of Bloomfield, John Hawkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Colten Latimer of Bloomfield, Alexis Hawkins of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Hawkins.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 with the family present to greet friends from 4-6:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Cremation will follow the visitation. Graveside memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Pastor Shari Squires officiating. Donna Irene Rose Jean Rachford, four-week-old daughter of Austin Ray Rachford and Clorenda Grace Babcock, died on September 10, 2016 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa. Donna was born August 2, 2016. She was a sweet baby and will be forever in the hearts of her family.

She is survived by her parents, Austin and Clorenda of Ottumwa; brother, Payton Rachford; grandparents, George III and Becky Post, Richard and Sherry Babcock all of Ottumwa; two great-grandfathers, Franklin Rupe Jr. of Ottumwa, Keith Dowell of Cantril, Iowa; great-grandmother, Pauline Post of Bloomfield; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, George Post Jr.; two great-grandmothers, Donna Haskell Dowell, Juanetta Rupe; and great-grandparents, Cleon and Aurora Babcock.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastors Dan Smith and Nathan Cranson officiating. Burial will be at the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. A memorial has been established to her family.

Willis Cleon Harris, 85, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away September 6, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital. He was born July 21, 1931 in West Grove, Iowa to Willis Clayton and Helen Bernice Carr Harris. He married Sara Ann O’Toole on March 16, 1950 in Centerville, Iowa. Cleon was a farmer and also worked in road construction as a heavy machine operator with Operating Engineers Local #234. He also maintained the racetracks at the Bloomfield and Eldon Raceways for many years, earning the nickname, “Trackman.”

Cleon and Sara raised fox hounds for many years and would take them to shows and on coyote hunts throughout the Midwest. For 15 years he coached his son’s fast pitch softball team. Cleon also enjoyed shooting pool and trap shooting. He was a member of the West Grove United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Harris of Bloomfield; daughter, Janice (Larry Robinson) Dove of Centerville, Iowa; son, Rick (Pam) Harris of Bloomfield; six grandchildren, Ginger (Jason Burgin) Barber, Gidget (Scott) Arnold, Haley Chance, Charlie (Erin) Harris, Travis (Kristi) Harris, Roxanne (Adam) Harris; twelve great-grandchildren; and mother, Helen Harris of Bloomfield.

He was preceded in death by his father and great-grandson, Zachary Barber.

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Open visitation will begin Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will follow the visitation and burial of the cremated remains will be at the West Grove Cemetery at a later date. Christine Lorraine French White, 89, of Moulton, Iowa died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa. She was born March 14, 1927 in Stiles, Iowa to Lowell Levi and Lenna Agusta Stookesberry French. She married Carl McKinley “Skeeter” White on April 21, 1946. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1989. Christine worked for her parents at the Mark Store and Produce. She later worked for Gould’s and Leon’s Grocery Stores and she retired from the dietary department of Davis County Hospital in 1989. Christine was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, Mark Stitch and Chatter Club, Eight Queen’s Card Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by three daughters, Kay Lawson of Moulton, Iowa, Connie Burgher of Moulton, Iowa, Debra (Mike) Lemley of Drakesville, Iowa; a son, Stuart (Ellen) White of Garland, Texas; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Wayne French; and grandson-in-law, Mark Garretson.

Edna Estella Magill, 97, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on August 23, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born July 20, 1919 in Brock, Missouri to John William and Ida Estella Faulk Merritt. She married Alva Magill and the couple lived on a farm while raising three children. Edna was hard working and helped with the daily chores that come with owning numerous cows, pigs, horses, and 5000 chickens in addition to growing corn and soybeans. In the mid-1960’s, Edna and Alva moved to Bloomfield where they purchased the Bloomfield Greenhouse and Flower Shop and would run those businesses for many years. Alva passed away on March 9, 1988.

Edna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved her community.

She is survived by her three children, Doug (Pat) Magill of Redondo Beach, California, Marylynn Magill of Riverside, California, Marvin (Celeste) Magill of Huntsville, Alabama; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece Carol (Jim) Tollerson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Mary Belle Wenstrom, Elizabeth Lee, Muriel Kleyla; and two brothers, John Merritt, Robert Arden.

Edna’s wish was to be cremated and a private service with burial of the cremated remains was on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton, Iowa.

Bernice Evelyn Lister, 100, of Stiles, Iowa passed away August 24, 2016 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born August 3, 1916 in Scotland County, Missouri to Rolla Emmor and Blanche Shook Spees. On November 8, 1935 she was united in marriage to Keith Lister at the home of Pastor Arthur Stookesberry near Bloomfield. Keith passed away on April 16, 1990. Bernice was a homemaker, farmer, and had lived in the Stiles area since 1935. She was a member of the Barker United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and was a charter member of the Stiles C. and C Club. Bernice was always willing to help her neighbors in any way that she could. She loved spending holidays and special occasions with her family, often making her homemade ice cream. Time with her family was very important. She enjoyed gardening, walking, quilting, working on the farm, and had been a volunteer at the Davis County Welcome Center and the Davis County Hospital.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Hull of Stiles; granddaughter, Paula (Tim Farley) Knight of Memphis, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Tait Marie Knight, Matthew Knight; and a great-great-granddaughter, Freya Ann Knight.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Edna Spees; husband; brother, Vern Spees; and three sisters, Dorothy Followwill, Ruby Purvis, and Clella Marie Garrett.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Barker United Methodist Church with Pastors Dee Wiley and Kramer Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Barker Cemetery in Scotland County, Missouri. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials have been established to the Barker United Methodist Church and Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties.

She was born December 21, 1964 in San Diego, California to Lee Roy and Geraldine Maria Keasling Cain. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bloomfield and was employed by 1st Resources.

She is survived by a son, Joshua Cain; two brothers, William (Sandra) Cain, Eric (Kari) Cain; and several cousins.

Opal Frances Anderson, 93, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away August 9, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital. She was born November 20, 1922 in Davis County, Iowa to Clifton and Mary Stevig Duffield. She married Edward Anderson on April 22, 1946 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2005. Opal was a Registered Nurse, working at hospitals in Maquoketa, Iowa; Las Cruces, New Mexico; Bloomfield, Iowa; and El Dorado, Arkansas. After retirement, Opal and Edward enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, reading and crocheting. Opal was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and former member of the Chautauqua Club.

She is survived by her three sons, Robert “Andy” (Anna) Anderson of Adel, Iowa, Bruce Anderson of Bloomfield, Iowa, Barry (Janice) Anderson of Haslet, Texas; daughter, Barbara Williams of Bloomfield; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Madalyn Marker of Brenton, Washington, Pauline Breese of Snohomish, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Billy Anderson; two brothers; and five sisters.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. John D. Boatman officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be at the Troy Cemetery at a later date. Gladys Elaine Wilcox, 86, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away July 31, 2016 at the Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born September 13, 1929 to John H. W. and Gertie Howk Johnson and was raised in southwest Wapello County. Elaine attended Center School and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1946. She attended Iowa Success School and worked at Ottumwa Mercantile. Elaine later worked at the Davis County Hospital and served as secretary at the Bloomfield Christian Church for 15 years.

On August 6, 1950, Elaine married Wendell Wilcox at the Ash Grove Church. The couple would have celebrated their 66th anniversary this week. They spent several years in the Air Force with Elaine returning to Ottumwa while Wendell served in the Korean War. They farmed in Wapello and Davis County for many years before retiring and moving to Bloomfield. 

Elaine was an avid gardener, quilter, and loved music. She also volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary, served as a 4-H leader, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Ottumwa. Her special love was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by four children, Julie (Rodney) Jackson of Somerset, Virginia, Rowene (Alan) White of Bloomfield, Richard Wilcox of Bloomfield, Colleen (Glenn) Reph of Seattle, Washington; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marie Isabel Boatman, 99, (5 months short of 100) died July 29, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital. She was born on December 27, 1916 to John T. and Elizabeth Ernst Barker. She married Jack Boatman on December 25, 1938 in Kahoka, Missouri.

Isabel taught school in Davis County for 50 plus years, beginning in a rural one room school house until she completed her career teaching 5th grade mathematics at the Davis County Elementary. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Davis County AARP, Church Women United, Business and Professional Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a former member of the Bloomfield Country Club. She enjoyed gardening, working crossword puzzles, traveling, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, Dr. Dennis (Kathy) Boatman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dr. Douglas (Jean) Boatman of Solon, Iowa, Michael Boatman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jack L. Boatman of Bloomfield, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Boatman; and brother, Harley Barker.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church with Rev. John D. Boatman officiating. Burial will be at the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa. Thomas Robert Williams, 81, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away July 24, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa. He was born September 3, 1934 in Esto, Florida to Dewey and Florene Blackburn Williams. He married Elizabeth Randall on April 21, 1960 in Paris Island, South Carolina. The couple raised four children and were married for 27 years.

Tom served in the United States Marine Corps. He was deployed to Korea, twice to Vietnam, and earned the rank, Gunnery Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he was a plumber and pipefitter. He eventually retired to Iowa to be with family. He enjoyed camping, fishing with his brothers in Florida, and spending time with his family. He was especially proud to serve in the military for many years.

He is survived by his son, Rob (Brenda) Williams of Bloomfield; three daughters, Melody Williams of Ottumwa, April (Jody) Polk of Bleiblerville, Texas, Amy Williams of Elmaton, Texas; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Williams of Columbus, Georgia, Russell (Gail) Williams of Phoenix City, Alabama; sister, Bonnie Ruth (Mac) McKay of Columbus, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Dick, and Ray Williams; and two sisters, Era Jean Trester, Annie Myrle Justice.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Baer Cemetery north of Drakesville, Iowa. Military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. Bobby Dean Speer, 80, of Pulaski, Iowa went to meet the Lord on July 21, 2016. He was born July 27, 1935 in Bloomfield, Iowa to George Holland and Eulah Ritz Speer. He married Carol Doss on February 22, 1964 at the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Scotland County, Missouri. To this marriage four children were born; Deborah, Denise, Deana, and Kelly.

Bobby attended Davis County High School and served in the United States Army. Most of his adult life he worked as a meat cutter at the Bloomfield Locker. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and gardening at the family farm, and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bloomfield.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Speer; three daughters, Deborah (Mikel) Hoskin of Keosauqua, Iowa, Denise (Michael Finneran) of Bloomfield, Iowa, Deana (Joel) Ausan of Ankeny, Iowa; brother, Bill (Kay) Speer of Bloomfield; sister, Shirley (Max) Rupe of Omaha; four grandchildren, Fallon, Ashley, Caleb, Ella; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Aden, and Addyson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Kelly Speer; and two grandsons, Ryan and Nathan Huffman.

Lester Donald Perry, 89, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away July 19, 2016 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born March 20, 1927 in Ottumwa, Iowa to James Everett and Ethel Mae Wiseman Perry. He served in the United States Army for eleven years, working in the medical department. Of the eleven years, he spent nine in Germany.

On April 6, 1958 he married Louise Stufflebeam in Davis County. To this union three children were born. He worked for Dickey Transport of Packwood, Iowa for many years as an over-the-road truck driver. He later worked and retired from the Davis County Law Center where he was a police dispatcher for many years.

Lester was a member of the East End Pentecostal Church in Ottumwa where he played the bass guitar and sang bass for many years with others in the church. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycles Association and rode motorcycles from the time he was 15 years old until his last wreck in 2008, at the age of 81. Lester was also a member of Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Perry; son, Donald (Tammy) Perry of Clear Lake, Iowa; daughter, Cheryl Roulet of Drakesville, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marlin Perry; son-in-law, Pete Roulet; great-granddaughter, Katherine Perry; three brothers, Howard, Hubert, and Walter Perry; and a sister, Donna Padget.

Marie Hunt, 98, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away July 9, 2016 at the Ottumwa Hospice House. She was born April 9, 1918 in Chariton County, Missouri to James Everett and Rodica Carson Linebaugh. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1936. On March 7, 1940 she married Charles Leroy “Roy” Hunt in Ottumwa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2014. Marie and Roy owned and operated the Coast To Coast store and the Hunt Apartments in Bloomfield. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of “Dudes & Dolls” and the “Kalico Klickers” dance clubs. She also enjoyed swimming, water skiing, boating, and gardening. Marie and Roy traveled south for winter, spending 34 years between Florida, Texas, and Arizona. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Joy Bramschreiber of Bloomfield, Kay (Michael) Evitts of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Marc Shirley of Eddyville, Iowa, Derrick Shirley of Chicago, Brian (Shelley) Bramschreiber of Bloomfield, April (Mike) Gruver of Pella, Iowa, Monica (Steve) Childs of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Robert (Bethany) Evitts of Urbandale, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty Frances Miller, 93, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away July 5, 2016 at the Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born February 21, 1923 in Bloomfield to Vint Dewitt and Floe Mae Francis York. After graduating from Bloomfield High School she worked for Vaughn Motor Co. of Bloomfield as a secretary and bookkeeper. On March 16, 1957 she married Loyd Miller at the Bloomfield Christian Church. The couple owned a farm and Betty became a farm wife and homemaker. She was an active member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, helping on the memorial committee, making meals for various gatherings, and as a member and past president of Disciples Women’s Fellowship. In her free time, Betty enjoyed reading, gardening, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams. She also enjoyed cooking for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Loyd Miller of Bloomfield; son, Mark L. Miller of Bloomfield; daughter, Mary (Jeff) Snook of Bloomfield; two grandsons, Joseph Hootman of Waterloo, Iowa, Adam (Jessica) Hootman of Bloomfield; two great-grandchildren, Rhett Hootman, Remi Hootman; and five nieces and nephews.

George Stuart “Stu” Lynch, 86, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away June 30, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born on February 7, 1930 in Moulton, Iowa to George Daniel and Alberta V. Gorman Lynch. He graduated from Moulton High School in 1948. George married Lois Marie Albertson on June 23, 1956 and the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last week.

George worked as a locomotive engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad for over 40 years and was associated with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the United Transportation Union. He also raised cattle for many years. George loved playing the guitar and playing with his Australian Shepherd, Jack. In addition, he loved to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He attended the Dunnville Baptist Church for over 50 years.

I. Cliff Foster, 89, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away June 29, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born February 6, 1927 in Davis County to Leo C. and Lelia Leyda Foster. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1945. Cliff married Mary Jane Hubbartt on October 5, 1952 in Bloomfield. He owned Hubbartt Insurance on the Bloomfield Square for many years, farmed, raised sheep and cattle, and served as a director of senior housing in Bloomfield since its inception. Cliff was a big supporter of the Davis County Fair and never missed a year since he first attended in 1927. He also never missed a class reunion. He enjoyed reading, gardening and canning. Cliff was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Foster; daughter, Lynn (Steve) Bly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Curtis (Amy) May, Melea May, David (Brooke) May, Shari (Nic) Greiner, Amy (George) Walton, Scott Bly, Holly Bly; two great-grandchildren, Braden May, Evelyn Walton; sister, Alice Thomas of Denver, Colorado; and a son-in-law, Larry (Bev) May.

Fay Nerice Harris, 91, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away June 17, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was born October 6, 1924 in West Grove, Iowa to William Marion and Nannie Elizabeth Johnson Robinson. She married Roy Virgil Harris on March 9, 1946 in Bloomfield. He passed away on October 31, 2003.

Fay worked with her husband as a farmer for many years, was a babysitter, and worked the voting sites on election days. She was a talented musician, teaching herself to play the guitar, fiddle, piano, and Harmonica without the ability to read sheet music. She also enjoyed gardening and was a great cook. Fay loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be missed by them all.

She is survived by two sons, Ron (Fran) Harris of West Grove, Iowa, Richard Harris of Bloomfield, Iowa; two daughters, Marcia (Tom) Bear of Bloomfield, Connie (Tom) Opiekun of Ottumwa, Iowa; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Marguerite Robinson.

John Wayne Schooley, 44, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away June 14, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital. He was born July 25, 1971 in Bloomfield to Wayne and Laurie Laing Schooley. He married Cheri Boyer on December 5, 1993 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later divorced. John worked at Schooley Farms alongside his parents and brother. He was a family man and loved spending time with his children. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, deer hunting, and pheasant hunting. John also enjoyed football; coaching for the Davis County Youth Football Program for several years and cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Keosauqua Restoration Branch where he served as deacon from 1990-1992.

He is survived by two sons, Eli (Chelsie Reed) Schooley of Ottumwa, Iowa, James (Mercedes Marshall) Schooley of Selma, Iowa; daughter, Samantha Schooley of Ottumwa; grandson, Maverick Wayne Schooley; sister, Holly (Todd) Milford of Independence, Missouri; brother, Luke (Fawn) Schooley of Bloomfield; grandparents, Arthur and Carmen Schooley of Wayland, Iowa, Rosemary Laing of Washington, Iowa; niece, Fallon Rayne Milford; two nephews, Peyton Layne Schooley, Landon William Schooley; and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

She was born April 14, 1924 in Birmingham, Iowa to Marion Francis and Eulalia Adaline Ford Mishler. She married Goldson “Bud” Black on April 7, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1986. The couple lived in several places until 1947 when they purchased a home north of Floris, Iowa and lived there until moving to Bloomfield in 1979. Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She loved animals and always had a little dog around the house. She also enjoyed horses and going horseback riding. Dorothy loved to help other people and would do anything she could to help other people. She was a member of the Stiles Christian Church.

She is survived by several nieces; nephews; and good friends, Kramer and Dorothy Smith of Stiles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Robert and David Mishler; three half-brothers, Donald and Glen Mishler, Perry Gilbert; and a half-sister, Cleta Mishler.

Denzyl L. Harbour, 94, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away May 30, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born November 21, 1921 to Thomas Joel and Beryle Lockman Harbour near Belknap in Davis County, Iowa. His early years were spent in one-room rural schools in Colorado and Davis County. He attended Bloomfield High School where he met his future wife, Nancy Dixon of rural Moulton, Iowa. The couple were married in Lancaster, Missouri on April 17, 1947 and lived in western Davis County raising a daughter, Dena Sue and a son, Dennis. Nancy passed away on March 30, 2007 just two weeks shy of their 60-year-anniversary.

After graduating from High School in 1940, Denzyl taught at Hamm Rural School and then was drafted in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. He would serve in the southern United States, England, northern France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, and “The Battle of the Bulge.” He drove a service truck and, with a small crew, installed communication systems in the 3rd and 5th armored front line tanks and armored carriers. He was honorably discharge on his 24th birthday.

In January 1946, he started working for Dain Manufacturing Company which would later become John Deere Ottumwa Works. After working for 41 years, he retired from the Field Test Department and was the last of the Dain employees to retire. While working for John Deere he helped develop experimental farm machinery of all types for various field and crop conditions.

Denzyl was a Scout Master of Troop 91 in Bloomfield for several years and helped with various camping trips and other activities including two trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

He is survived by a son, Dennis (Julie) Harbour of Bloomfield; daughter, Dena Sue Harbour of Bloomfield; six grandchildren, Travis (Jayne) Hartman, Tara (Tom) Schlieper, Lindsey (David) Essary, Amy (Clinton) Urnez, Joshua Reed, Elizabeth Emmerich; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Wila Harter of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Dwight Harbour.

Graveside services with scattering of the cremated remains will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Harbour Cemetery in Davis County with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Historical Society.

Donald Lloyd Eakins, 88, of Drakesville, Iowa passed away May 27, 2016 at the Ottumwa Hospice House. He was born March 11, 1928 at the family house in Davis County to Harry and Lucile Rudd Eakins. He attended grade school in Davis County and graduated from Bloomfield High School. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, spending 21 months in Japan. Don worked for Morrell’s in Ottumwa for 21 years and after Morrell’s closed, worked with his father on the farm raising livestock and crops.

He married Jo Ann Miers in April 1952. To that marriage two children were born, Cheryl and Charles. They were later divorced. On March 11, 1969 he married Marieta Morrison Thompson. This marriage added a step-son in Don’s life, Charles Thompson.

Don loved to go deer hunting with his friends, square dancing, and playing cards. In his youth he enjoyed fast automobiles.

He is survived by his wife, Marieta Eakins of Drakesville; son, Charles (Debra) Eakins of Chula Vista, California; daughter, Cheryl Brownell also of Chula Vista; two granddaughters, Anna Eakins of Chula Vista, California, Danielle (John) Kennedy of Jasper, Georgia; two grandsons, Tyler Brownell of Carmichael, California, Jesse (Jennifer) Thompson of Conyers, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Brody, and Emorye; and a sister, Margaret Turner of Carlisle, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean Eakins; and step-son, Charles Thompson.

Colleen Mae Gilfillan, 85, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away May 27, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was the second child of Paul and Venus Walker Willcoxson, born in Davis County, Iowa on December 3, 1930. Colleen was a member of the Bloomfield High School Class of '49. She married J. Dean Baughman in 1948, they divorced in 1960. She was remarried to Dr. H.J. Gilfillan, on June 2, 1962, until his death in April 1988.

A life-long resident of Davis County, Colleen was a member of Bloomfield Christian Church, the Century Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed entertaining family on long visits to Iowa and she leaves a large needle point legacy with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Jerry D. Baughman and his spouse Brad Lentz, of Iowa City, Iowa; step-grandson, Jeff (Sandy) Gilfillan of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters, Betty Lee (A.J."Chic") Mascetta of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Joan Stoker, Connie Phillis both of Waterloo, Iowa; brother Robert (Shirley) Willcoxson of Bloomfield; and sister-in-law, Cathy Willcoxson of Apache Junction, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Donald Willcoxson; sister, Linda Good; and her step-son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Norris and Marilyn Jane Gilfillan.

Colleen's cremains will be interned at the IOOF Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Immediately following the burial, a celebration of Colleen’s life will be held at Mulberry Place in Bloomfield.

Ronald Lee Gordon, 71, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away May 12, 2016 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born March 3, 1945 in Galesburg, Illinois to George Arthur and Cecil Bair Gordon. He was raised in North Henderson, Illinois and graduated from Alexis High School in Alexis, Illinois in 1963. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the U.S.S. Jason based out of San Diego. The U.S.S. Jason was deployed to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.

When Ron returned home from Vietnam, he attended the Elkhart Institute of Technology in Elkhart, Indiana and graduated as a Laboratory Technologist in 1972. He would work as a lab tech at St. John’s Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas, the Davis County Hospital and Gilfillan Clinic both in Bloomfield, and the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

In 1980, Ron joined the HHC 224th Engineer Battalion National Guard out of Fairfield, Iowa. He served as the Supply Sargent for Headquarter Company. The 224th was deployed to Vilseck, Germany in support of the 8th Infantry Mechanized during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Ron was a Vietnam War and Desert Storm Veteran.

He married Christine Boyle in 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville, Iowa. The couple had two children together, Matthew Samuel Gordon and Molly Kate Gordon. They were divorced in 1993.

Ron is survived by his children, Matt (Tara) Gordon of Greentop, Missouri, Molly Gordon of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Tyler Gordon of Auburn, Alabama, Ireland Gordon of Greentop, Missouri, Alexander Dunkin, Brayton Dunkin both of Bloomfield; two sisters, Joan (Bob) Hunt, Barbara Roseberry both of Galesburg, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Agnes Pruessing; and two brothers, Thomas and Donald Gordon.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Hazel Marie Stogdill Shively, 84, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away May 6, 2016 at her home. She was born September 23, 1931 in Davis County, Iowa to Francis Marion and Martha Jane Bowman Stogdill. She married Ronnie Lewis Shively on March 25, 1952 in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1991. Hazel and her husband operated the Shively Dairy Farm and she remained active on the farm until she was 70 years old. She was a member of the Mark Baptist Church and loved to read her Bible. In her free-time she enjoyed doing word search puzzles, gardening, planting flowers, and playing the piano. Hazel loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she referred to each one as “Sweety.”

She is survived by four children, Rhonda Shively of Bloomfield, Mark (Vicki) Shively of Bloomfield, Julie (Jon) Rice of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sheila (Gary) Rudd of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren, Misti (Stu) Picton, Justin (Brandy) Shively, Jill (Dave) Sakalosky, Jon Rice III, Jason (Kellie) Rice, Maddison (Javier Ixba) Rudd, Stephen Rudd, Ethan Rudd; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Verlin Stogdill of Flint, Michigan.

He married Doris Hougland March 4, 1957 in Benton, Missouri. Robert served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. After the Army, he worked as a salesman for Hamilton – Murrell’s and later in insurance. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed bowling, playing cards, going to casinos with his wife, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and going to grandchildren’s sporting events. He had attended the Barker United Methodist Church in Scotland County, Missouri.

Joyce Mae Prather, 90, of Moulton, Iowa passed away May 3, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born September 10, 1925 in San Luis Obispo, California to Raymond Scott and Lottie Kimbrough Jespersen. She married Walter Lester Prather Jr. on November 18, 1943 in San Luis Obispo. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1986.

Joyce grew up in California, lived in Texas for a few years while Walter was in the military, and then moved back to California. She was a housewife and worked as a clerk for the State of California for many years, retiring in 1979. Soon after retirement, Walter and Joyce moved to Iowa to be close to grandchildren.

Joyce attended church at the Orleans Church of Christ near Moulton, and also The Church in Ottumwa. She enjoyed working in her yard, playing the piano, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and attending local sporting events.

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia (Susan Jacobs) Prather of Rohnert Park, California, Ruth (Marion) Payne of Marion, Iowa, Nancy (Ray) Fine of Moulton, Iowa; six grandchildren, Nathaniel (Angel) Payne of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rachel (Rock) Powell of Marion, Iowa, Aaron (Joanna) Payne of Webb City, Missouri, Rebecca Payne of Waterloo, Iowa, Scott (Stasia) Fine of Cedar Rapids, Lynette (Todd) Van Scoy of West Burlington, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Isaac and AnnaLee Payne, Zoe, Katie, and Ethan Powell; and two step-great-grandchildren, Ethan and Austin Van Scoy.

Joe Dean Woolard, 78, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away May 2, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born November 5, 1937 in Bloomfield to Paul and Gladys Paris Woolard. He lived his entire life in Davis County except for one year in Hillsboro, Oregon. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1955. On December 24, 1955 he married Janet Long at the Ash Grove Christian Church.

Joe served in the United States Army from November 7, 1955 to September 19, 1957. He received the American Legion Veteran of the Year Award in 2014. He was a member of Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion for nine years.

Upon his return from the Army to Bloomfield, Joe became involved in helping the young people through his involvement as a manager and coach of Little League for 25 years. He worked the clock and scoreboard for 50 years at the Davis County High School football games. He also did this for basketball and wrestling for more than 15 years as well as helping with track meets for better than 48 years.

Joe was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church. He enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals. He worked for the City of Bloomfield for 42 years.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Woolard; son, Brad (Kristi) Woolard; grandson, Nathan Woolard; and brother, Jack (Beverly) Woolard.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jeanine Ella Wilfawn, 86, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away April 30, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital. She was born April 27, 1930 in Troy, Iowa to Chester Earl and Lucy Starner Harman. She married Ralph Wilfawn May 18, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 20, 2006.

Jeanine worked at the Davis County Courthouse for 28 years as Deputy Clerk of District Court, Deputy County Treasurer, Deputy County Auditor, and County Auditor. Her joy in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and spending time with her family and friends. Jeanine and Ralph enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, and traveling together. They never met a stranger in all their travels. They also spent many enjoyable hours at sporting events for their three sons. Jeanine could often times be found at her sewing machine making quilts or in the yard with her rock garden, flowers, and playful dog, Brandi.

She is survived by three sons, Melvin (Linda) Wilfawn of Fairfield, Iowa, Mike (Vicki) Wilfawn of Kansas City, Missouri, Mark (Marla) Wilfawn of Bloomfield; nine grandchildren, Erika (Chuck) Coulter, Corrie (Mitchell) Sorrels, Chad (Robin) Wilfawn, Jason (Angie) Wilfawn, Jacki (Nick) Nabor, Drew Wilfawn, Blake Wilfawn, Connor Wilfawn, Stephyn Wilfawn; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Davis County High School with the class of 1961. On September 3, 1965, he married Sandra K. Evans at the Monterey Christian Church. Gary was a life-long farmer on the home place in Davis County and served as a trustee of the Fabius Township. He enjoyed going to farm shows, NASCAR, Ford Tractors, visiting with neighbors, and taking Sunday drives.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Foster; mother-in-law, Lois Evans of Bloomfield; brother-in-law, Steven (Karen) Evans of Rosehill, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sharon (Randy) Leedom of Eddyville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Pat) Carlson of Georgia, Rosa Harter of Batavia; three sons, Kevin Downing of Batavia, James (Lisa) Downing of Fairfield, William Downing of Indianapolis, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jesse Albright of Washington, Iowa.

He was born at that same family farm on March 1, 1936 to William Theophilus McKinley and Zelma Mae Smith Hopkins. He married Elvona Grosvenor on April 21, 1957 in Ottumwa, Iowa. George was a farmer, raising cattle and crops and also worked in construction as a union laborer. He was a 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid supporter of the Republican Party and had attended the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.

Norman served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He received his education from Iowa State University where he received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in forestry.

He is survived by a niece, Constance Deller and a nephew, Mark Hansen, both from California.

She was a very hard working, caring, and loving person; always making sure the needs of others were met before thinking of herself. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting, and watching baseball. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of the West Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Darlene (Carl) Ritz of Bloomfield, Donna Jean Burdett of Ottumwa, Iowa, Nadine Day of Bloomfield; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 43 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Fay Harris.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Carl, Lowell, Roy, and Homer Harris; and two sisters, Mildred Foster and Helen Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Dave Albert officiating. Burial will be at the West Grove Cemetery in West Grove, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Care Center Activity Fund or Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties.

Camden Paul Allen, infant son of Derek and Lacey Allen was stillborn March 31, 2016 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He is survived by his parents, Derek Wayne and Lacey Jayne Beebe Allen of rural Bloomfield, Iowa; brother, Mason Simmons at home; grandparents, Julie Waterman of Burlington, Iowa, Jody Allen of Bloomfield, Dennis Allen of Bloomfield; great-grandparents, Bill and Ava Waterman of Farmington, Iowa, Charlene Allen of Bloomfield, Carol Grinstead of Floris; two aunts, Kara Beebe of Donaldson, Iowa, Alisha Allen of Bloomfield; and an uncle, Chris (Miranda) Beebe of Troy, Iowa.

Craig Curtis Barker, 59, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away March 26, 2016 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center in Clarinda, Iowa. He was born June 1, 1956 in Bloomfield to Charles Lowell and Wilma Jean Davis Barker. He married Nancy Rysdam on September 3, 1976 in Lancaster, Missouri. Craig worked with Keane Thummel Trucking driving step deck trailers. He was a driver for 40 years and the last eight years he was a driving partner with his wife. The couple have been all over the United States and Canada while working together. While not on the road, Craig loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed his Harley Davidson, watching NASCAR, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Barker of Bloomfield; two sons, Trent (Wendy) Barker of Floris, Iowa, Cory (Paige) Barker of Marietta, Oklahoma; two daughters, Melissa (Greg) McCall of Bloomfield, Katie (Brad Wagoner) Garmon of Floris; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Barker, Clark Barker, David Barker; and four sisters, Sherry Ryan, Sheryl Wilcox, Sona Rooshanfekr, and Stephanie Pardo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Gordon Hawkins officiating. John Welford “Jack” Jeffrey, 79, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away March 24, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born May 15, 1936 in Williston, North Dakota to John David and Gladys Etta Dolliver Jeffrey. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years. Jack loved motorcycles, new vehicles, and was quite a talker. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Lou Thordarson Nichols of Bloomfield; two nieces, Leslie Thordarson (Steve) Dlugosch of Spencer, Iowa, Kay Thordarson Wright of Bloomfield; three nephews, Jeffrey (Sharon) Thordarson, David (Sherri) Thordarson both of Bloomfield, Carl Thordarson of Ottumwa, Iowa; seven great nephews and nieces; and nine great great nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, DeWan (James) Lee; two nephews, Paul Thordarson, David Wright; and a brother-in-law, Edmund Thordarson.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Cremation will follow the visitation.

Graveside services with military rites will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.

A memorial has been established to the McCreery Cancer Center at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield, Iowa.

Phyllis Starks, 78, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away March 22, 2016 at her home. She was born April 15, 1937 in Putnam County, Missouri to James and Naomi Hanes Hatfield. She married Charles Edwin Cormeny and they were later divorced. She married Gordon Starks and he preceded her in death. Phyllis was a homemaker and had been living with her daughter, Judi Tomlin, for several years.

A graveside service with burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date at the Mt. Herman Cemetery near Chariton, Missouri.

al Owen “H.O.” Moore, 53, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away March 21, 2016 at the Keosauqua Health Center in Keosauqua, Iowa. He was born December 3, 1962 in Davis County, Iowa to Dwight Owen and Ginger Topaz Mustard Moore. H.O. graduated from Fox Valley High School and joined the Army Reserves, serving for 6 years. After graduating from the Indian Hills Aviation Mechanic Program, he moved to Parsippany, New Jersey where he worked in railroad construction for ten years. After moving back to Iowa, he worked at Barker Wire and drove a milk truck. In his spare time, H.O. enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was also a big movie buff and loved the television show, Gunsmoke. H.O. was a member of the Moulton Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Ginger Moore of Milton, Iowa; two sisters, Jodie (Steve) Pierce of Douds, Iowa, Lisa (Stuart) Grim of Ames, Iowa; two brothers, Jon (Tess) Moore of Humphreys, Missouri, Brad Moore of Bloomfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Rodney Owen Moore.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Minister Kevin Mote officiating. Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Bloomfield D.A.R.E. Program and the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.

Dwight Lawson, 82, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away March 15, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born February 9, 1934 in Monterey, Iowa to Flavy and Verna Small Lawson. He married Carolyn Johnson on September 25, 1954 in Davis County, Iowa. Carolyn passed away earlier this year on February 23. Dwight was a farmer; raising livestock, growing crops, and shearing sheep. He also worked on fixing televisions, radios, and other electronics. He was a hard worker who always stayed busy. Dwight loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Thomas of Des Moines, Iowa, and Teresa Lawson of Ottumwa, Iowa; two sons, Dean Lawson and Eddy Lawson both of Bloomfield, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jessica Lawson of Bloomfield, Samantha Lawson of Yale, Iowa, and Taylor Lawson of Ottumwa; brother, DeWayne (Sheryl) Lawson of Bloomfield; sister, Myrna Kay (Bob) Tompkins of Centerville, Iowa; Uncle, Ronald (Letha) Lawson of Bloomfield; mother-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Bloomfield, sister-in-law, Diane (Dennis) Wright of Ames, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Cynthia Kay Vogel, 63, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away March 10, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was born April 23, 1952 in Iowa City to Keith H. and Ethel Cowan Dunton. She married Leon Vogel on June 18, 1977 in Thornburg, Iowa. Cynthia taught 1st Grade in Eddyville, Iowa for several years. She raised her two sons and worked on the family farm and then resumed teaching at the Davis County Elementary School. While at Davis County she taught preschool, 3rd Grade, and was currently teaching Title 1 Math. She was a member of the Davis County Education Association, Iowa State Education Association and was Co-President of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. Cynthia enjoyed watching sports and rooting for the U.N.I. Panthers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Davis County Mustangs. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “Nana.”

She is survived by her husband, Leon Vogel; two sons, Todd (Heidi Inman) Vogel, Troy (Theryn) Vogel both of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Grayci, Quincey, and Londyn Vogel; aunt, Margaret Ann Shirlaw of San Diego; two cousins, Bob (Deb) Cowan of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Lyn (Jerry) Alford of San Diego; father-in-law, Stanley Vogel of Sigourney, Iowa; Bret and Amy Conover and their daughter, Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law, Irene Vogel.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Davis County Elementary School.

Larry "Snuffy" Johnson - 3/2/16

Larry “Snuffy” Johnson, 72, of Tiffin, Iowa passed away March 2, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He was born July 1, 1943 in Coatsville, Missouri to Olin “Swede” and Freda Jean Moore Johnson. He graduated from Milton High School and joined the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he played in the Elite Marching Band performing for the President of the United States. He was very musical and could play any instrument. In 1967, he married Evelyn Yvonne Bunner in Kirksville, Missouri. She passed away April 7, 2015. Larry had been a police officer in St. Louis, Kirksville, and the Chief of Police in Montezuma, Iowa, before retiring.

Larry’s wish was to be cremated and burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date at the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa.
