Eric Edward Hartman, 30, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa died February 29, 2016 at his home. He was born July 31, 1985 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Kenneth Edward and Teresa Ann Bailey Hartman. He married Dorothy Fay DeHeer April 7, 2006 in Centerville, Iowa. Eric worked for Kauffman Building for ten years and rode bulls in Rodeos from 2003-2007. He was a member of the United Rodeo Association, Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association and Bullriders of America. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. More than anything, Eric loved spending time with his children. He was also a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Brayden Hartman; daughter, Alexis Hobbs; mother, Teresa (Bruce Ladely) of Bloomfield; father, Kenneth (Dianna) Hartman of Drakesville, Iowa; two sisters, Laura (Eric) Dabney of Lancaster, Missouri, Melissa (Howard Ludington) Hartman of Bloomfield; brother, Trinity Hartman of Bloomfield; step sister, Kelly (Gary) Caldwell of Newton, Iowa; three step-brothers, Brian (Mary) Utoft of Chandler, Arizona, Mark (Toni) Utoft of St. Charles, Illinois, Ben Utoft of Batavia, Iowa; grandmother, Gloria Bailey of Floris, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, John Bailey, Wilson Hartman; and great-grandmother, Lydia Heath.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Richard Friend officiating. Burial will be at the Hartman Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to his children. 

Carolyn May Lawson, 79, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa died February 23, 2016. She was born May 1, 1936 in Davis County, Iowa to Kenneth Paul and Margaret Maurine Barkley Johnson. She married Dwight Lawson on September 25, 1954 in Davis County, Iowa. Carolyn had worked as a secretary in the Administration Building for Davis County Schools and the newspaper office in Lancaster, Missouri. She was also a farm wife and decorated cakes. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, oil painting, gardening, and canning. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Carolyn was a member of the Monterey Christian Church.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret Johnson of Bloomfield; husband, Dwight Lawson; two daughters, Beverly Thomas of Des Moines, Iowa, and Teresa Lawson of Ottumwa, Iowa; two sons, Dean Lawson and Eddy Lawson both of Bloomfield, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jessica Lawson of Bloomfield, Samantha Lawson of Yale, Iowa, and Taylor Lawson of Ottumwa; sister, Diane (Dennis) Wright of Ames, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, David and Gale Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Burial will be at the Washington Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to her family.

Shirley Lee Schumaker, 83, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away February 19, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born August 17, 1932 in Davis County, Iowa to O.D. “Pete” and Bernice Alice Fountain Archer. She married Paul Dwight Wintermote on February 24, 1952 in Davis County, they were later divorced. She married H. Earl Schumaker in 1977 in Las Vegas. Earl passed away on September 22, 1991. She was a bookkeeper for Bimco in Bloomfield for many years, retiring in 1977. Shirley and Earl started the Best Western Motel and Restaurant in Bloomfield, which is the present-day Southfork. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and writing poems. Shirley loved family gatherings and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three daughters, Dana (Barry) Day, Paula (Tony) Houston both of Bloomfield, Brenda (Kevin) Jarvis of Ottumwa; son, Doug (Dawn) Wintermote of Bloomfield; son-in-law, Kenneth Roulet of Bloomfield; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Foster of West Des Moines, Wanda (Larry) Walker of Floris; step-daughter, Marsha Rooney of Florida; two step-sons, Gordon (Ellen) Schumaker of Bloomfield, Greg (Bonny) Schumaker of Nebraska; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Rhonda Roulet; grandson, Joshua Jarvis; a step-son, Garry Schumaker; and a step-daughter, Melody Jurgens.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with her grandson, Pastor Heath Jarvis, officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow services at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. No visitation is planned. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.

Donnel Berryman, 86, of Pulaski, Iowa passed away February 19, 2016 at the Hospice House in Ottumwa. He was born June 22, 1929 in Birmingham, Iowa to Steve and Alvina Peplow Berryman. He married Virginia Augspurger June 25, 1950 at the Pulaski Mennonite Church. A 1947 graduate of Pulaski High School, he worked on the family farm with his father. In addition to farming, he worked for Augspurger Gas in Pulaski and was a fieldman for A.S.C.S. for many years. Donnel was a member and trustee of the Pulaski Mennonite Church where he served the Lord he loved. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia; four children, Connie (Bob) Cagle of Bolivar, Missouri, Garry (Rebecca) Berryman of Scottsdale, Arizona, Doug (Patty) Berryman, Kent (Kathy) Berryman both of Bloomfield; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four older sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Pulaski Mennonite Church with Pastor Darrell Zook officiating. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski. Memorials have been established to the Pulaski Mennonite Church and Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties.

Eleanor S. Dunsmoor, 95, of Ottumwa, Iowa died on February 19, 2016 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was born December 12, 1920 in Villisca, Iowa to Verd and Hilda Louise Windhorst Schantz. She married Thomas B. Dunsmoor June 22, 1940 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1994.

Tom and Eleanor traveled extensively, following his quest for education and the teaching and administrative positions he held in Hartley, Bloomfield, Wellsburg and Greene, Iowa. Eleanor and Tom retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1980. She continued to live in Arkansas after Tom’s death, until moving to Ottumwa in October of 2015, to be closer to her family. She was a member of the Bella Vista United Methodist Church and Chapter BR PEO in Bella Vista.

Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Randy) Meyer of Long Prairie, Minnesota, Lisa (Richard) Wagler of Bloomfield, Iowa; five grandchildren, Joshua (Heather) Hemming of Poway, California, Cassie Hemming of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Adam (Dr. Laura Madeline Wiseman) Wagler of Lincoln, Nebraska, Michael Wagler of Ankeny, Iowa, Ellie (Winston) Stewart of Des Moines, Iowa; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Fred W. Schantz; and a sister, Fern Eggers.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A memorial, in lieu of flowers, has been established to the Alzheimer’s Association.

William Dwight “Bill” Downing, 85, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away February 13, 2016 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born February 16, 1930 west of Troy, Iowa to Irvin Dwight “Hap” and Beulah Vera Wilkinson Downing. He married Donna Barker on September 20, 1953 at the Bloomfield Christian Church. Donna passed away January 2, 2015. The couple lived on a farm northwest of Troy, Iowa for 48 years, where they raised three children. Bill loved working on the farm, raising livestock and crops. Every Spring he looked forward to the smell of earth being turned over during planting. Aside from farming, he also worked at Chain and Cable in Fairfield for 17 years. He enjoyed spending winters with his wife in Donna, Texas, camping in their RV. Other interests included boating, traveling, moving dirt around in his bulldozer, and his two dogs, Bear and Katie. Above everything else was his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was proud to serve his country and years later would start the Troy Avenue of Flags at the Troy Cemetery to honor his fellow veterans. He spent countless hours putting out flags, taking them down, and maintaining them in between times of display.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kris (Bob) Hougland, Lori (Mike) Lawson both of Bloomfield; son, Don (Denise) Downing of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Hougland, Jessica Hougland, Troy (Katie) Downing, Karie Downing, Alison Downing, Erin (Matt) Gorman, Cody Sickels, Shalayla Sickels; five great-grandchildren, Chase and Alexis Hougland, Justyn Hale, Chloe and Ethan Umphress; and his brother, Richard (Sara) Downing of Hannibal, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion at the funeral home at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with family visitation following until 7:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation and burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date at the Troy Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Troy Avenue of Flags and Good Samaritan Hospice.
